URGENT NEED AND NATURAL DISASTER RELIEF...
On April 25, 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal 50 miles close to the nation's capital and largest city, Kathmandu. The quake completely destroyed houses, buildings and a mass of infrastructure. Over 8,000 people have perished and 10,000 and growing have been injured. The brave rescue teams on the scene say the death toll will undoubtedly climb as numbers are assessed to include the remote villages in the surrounding area.
There were additional quakes on May 11th that have killed scores more. Recovery will be a long and demand road.
The quakes have wreaked utter havoc and those who have survived are faced will immediate shortages of food and water. Several hundred thousand individuals and families are left helpless where their only option is to live in tents since many homes have been destroyed. The local government has asked for 500,000 tents from relief groups to give immediate shelter to those struggling. Equally terrifying is the complete power outages and collapsed cellphone networks that are severely restricting the ability of aid to reach those desperately in need. At the top of the fallout lies major concerns specific to the spread of a catastrophic level of diseases.
The disaster will motivate many to help. A notable number of charities will be active with efforts to provide food, clothing, hygiene items, medicine and temporary housing. These are commendable efforts and if you should decide to contribute in any way please get up to speed through charity research before you donate and make sure the charity you select is of excellent quality.
Even large reputable Charities need to be kept accountable. A recent story exposed some serious questions about the Red Cross, the hundreds of millions they raised for Haiti, and how the money was actually spent. the point is you must make sure your charity is being responsible, transparent and held accountable with your hard earned donations.
